Along with addressing the digital gap, we also have to talk about digital literacy. Technology plays such a huge part of our day-to-day lives and it’s also a splitting factor in which communities get the most gov access and which do not
Racialized, low-income, immigrant/refugee communities and the elderly are being exploited esp during this time because not only are there language barriers that people have to navigate, but the expectation that everyone has equitable access to technology
The current organizing work I’m doing closely focuses on translation/language access but has made me realize that this is only the tip of the iceberg. What we’re facing is a grim view of how the tech landscape is largely inaccessible and leaves people with few credible resources
But really this thread is also about how tech bros suck and how we need to stop thinking that technology is an inherent good/neutral entity
