2. Know your epidemic: identify main transmission risks & locations (eg hospital, care homes, workplaces, public places) by analysing data from cases, contact tracing and surveillance. This can inform tailored interventions & move away from blanket lockdown once under control 2/9
3. Ensure transmission is suppressed in hospitals, care homes and workplaces through the right protective equipment, testing, distancing and hygiene. Investigate differential effects (e.g. black and minority ethnic groups) 3/9
4. Ensure that the most vulnerable, socially and medically, are fully protected through simple access to a basic income, rights for migrants, and safety for those affected by domestic violence.
(Those are the four from 15 April. I would now add a 5th).

4/9
5. Build trust. This has taken a big hit the last couple of weeks. For people to be confident and willing to take necessary action, we need complete transparency:
- timely publication of all scientific reports and public health advice going to government. 5/9
- Visible independent public health leadership: the doctors and scientists - the CMO etc. - should be speaking directly to the public so that every message is free from the (now toxic) political atmosphere. 6/9
- for example parents and teachers need to hear @CMO_England and @uksciencechief and other PH leaders explain the evidence and discuss when and how it is safe to open schools.
They have a really difficult job, made more difficult by their lack of visible independence. 7/9
The UK has been hit hard by this epidemic, & people are still frightened, angry & frustrated.
The economic & social costs are immense and damaging, particularly for those with fewest resources.
8/9
We need to hold govt to account, and to learn lessons.

But at the same time we need to build trust through our public health leaders uniting everyone around what has to happen now and over the next few months to prevent a resurgence
