So last night was the launch of my new campaign, “The Further Voyages of the Realms Master”, continuing the story from the DC Comics #dnd Forgotten Realms comoc book that ran back in 89-91. Set in the current Realms. I am setting up the adventures as “issues”.
Last night was Issue #1 “Enemy at the Gates”, and our story starts in Westgate on the shores of the Sea of Fallen Stars.

Our cast is a female half drow bard and her twin brother a cleric, we have a human monk, a human wizard, and a dragonborn hexblade.
I asked each party member to give me one they’ve done in Westgate that would attract (possibly unwanted) attention, and used these as a premise for them receiving an invite from a mysterious Shou named Lin, for a meeting with a potential employer.
He secretly owned an inn back in the 2e days named The Blais House, which served as a planar waystation. It had gates for traveling. It is now boarded up shut and forgotten, its gates inactive.
The party was hired for a simple task: eneter the old abandoned building and transcribe the runes on the two gates by the chimneys. The party wizard, being a scribe, could easily do so. The other members were there in case of rats or oozes. Who knows what’s in an old building.
Well, Westgate being Westgate, there was more than meets the eye. The party discovered that the Night Masks are not only using the building as a ssfehluse/warehouse, the gates are active and are being used to transport illicit cargo!
So there was combat with some rats, spiders, low level foot soldiers, and an animated armor protecting the gates. When they went back to report to the old man what they discovered, he took it in stride, pleased with their work, and ended the night on a cliffhanger...
“Now let me tell you what I really hired you for...”
Next issue: “Dead in the Water!”
We all had a blast. It was a lot of fun. Lots of fun.
If you aren’t familiar with the Forgotten Realms comic book that my campaign is a sequel to, this nice series at the Hero Twice a Month blog reviews all 25 issues. #dnd
