Last week I went to the grocery store. A man entered a few seconds before me and as the door automatically opened he “flipped off” the sign that read “Mask required in store.” He was not wearing a mask.

I watched as he walked to the deli counter and started demanding service although other people, who were there first, were waiting their turn. The employee behind the counter told him he would have to wait and that also he would have to put a mask on. He went bonkers.

He started demanded to see a manager. Screamed about his freedoms, called everyone in line “sheeple” and praised President Trump at one point even yelling, “The President doesn't wear a mask would you make him leave!?”

He after a long minute of raving he turned and walked back to the entrance but stopped to yell at an employee, (age approx 16), who was stocking produce. He then turned and started to walk further back into the store his ranting becoming louder and more agitated.

Without hesitation I started to approach him. I didn't know what I was going to do but he was distraught, angry and I knew he was capable of causing trouble or harm.

He stopped walking.

I stopped walking toward him.

He was looking over my shoulder so I turned and looked too.

It hadn't been just me walking toward him.

There were about a dozen of us.

All ready to prevent any further chaos or potential danger.

We had all done it instinctively without thought for ourselves but in our thoughts for others.

We stood, silent, masked, united.

The man turned and left the store.

We all went back to shopping, no one said anything.

No one had their camera out. No one filmed it.

Imagine that.

People trying to protect other people, strangers, for no reason other than wanting peace and safety for everyone.
