An AU where the oracle had revealed that Prince Yoongi would be kissed by the love of his life on the night of his 18th birthday. Blossoming with excitement, he made his way down the grand staircase, the birthday masquerade ball his parents had thrown for him was in full swing.
Yoongi hopes it would be Prince Jimin—the boy he grew up with, who is also his close friend. They have such a breezy and fun time together...and he’s sure their fathers get along well.

Jimin had even allowed him to call him “Jiminie” in public!
“The birthday boy finally decides to show up,” snarled an arrogant voice. Yoongi is snapped out of his reverie as he spots Prince Jungkook leaning against a gold pillar. “Perhaps you’ll slip this year too and land on your big bottom—that oughta liven up this charade.”
“Always a pleasure to see you, Prince Jungkook,” Yoongi grumbles, trying hard to remain polite. Unlike Jimin, Jungkook was definitely /not/ Yoongi’s friend. The boy had tormented Yoongi for years!
Not to mention, it had been Jungkook ‘accidentally’ spilling his wine on the floor that had caused Yoongi’s fall the previous year.

Jungkook had earned an earful from Yoongi that night—and had laughed it off like the uncouth man he is!
But no. Not tonight. Yoongi won’t let Jungkook’s teases and taunts ruin the most important revelation from coming to fruition.

“Where are you off to with such a big bounce to your steps?” Prince Jungkook’s eyes are glinting mischievously as he follows Yoongi.
/ To find the love of my life. /

“Why are you following me?” Yoongi pursed his lips, walking quicker but Jungkook easily fell in step with him.

“Didn’t I just tell you?” Jungkook replied dryly. “I want to see you fall—up close.”
Yoongi spins around, fixing Jungkook with a glare. “Go away!” Yoongi resisted the urge to stomp his foot. “And wear a mask—I don’t want to look at your face anymore!”

“Prince Yoongi?” comes a cheerful voice and Yoongi immediately stiffens, a giddy smile forming on his face.
“Is Prince Jimin coming this way?” Yoongi whispered to Jungkook, whose jaw was clenched tight.

“No—but I do see a midget who awfully resembles him,” Jungkook rolls his eyes.

“Jungkook!” Yoongi hissed softly. “Don’t insult my potential husband!”
“What?!” Jungkook’s eyes narrowed. “What do you mean?”

“The oracle!” Yoongi turns around, providing no further explanation, a smile on his face. Everyone knows about the oracle. “I’m going to kiss Jimin tonight and make him the love of my life!”

“What bullsh—“
“Happy birthday, Prince Yoongi,” Jimin, with his blue-green mask, reaches Yoongi and draws him into a warm hug. “You look beautiful, my sweet butterfly.”

The sincere whisper makes Yoongi giggle into Jimin’s neck.
He had made sure to wear the sheer white fluffy shirt, tucked into tight dark pants that highlighted his slim legs and adorned himself with various ornaments that glittered under the lights. His mask was shaped like a silver butterfly, royal and pretty.

And Jimin noticed.
“May I have a dance with you, Prince Yoongi?” Jimin was all smiles and gentleness.

“I’ve been waiting for you to ask,” Yoongi felt a small blush tint his cheeks.

He ignores the scoff thrown by Prince Jungkook as Prince Jimin leads him into the slightly crowded dance floor.
They waltz around together, all smiles and conversations about their childhood.

“Prince Jimin—“

“Call me Jiminie like usual,” Jimin pulled Yoongi close as they swayed together.

“Ji-Jiminie,” Yoongi bites his lip, eyes sparkling. “I have something important to tell you.”
“Hmm...I’m all ears,” Jimin tilted his head.

“Not here—will you come with me outside to the gardens?” Yoongi looks around them.

He will kiss Jimin outside. Away from these prying eyes.

And /make/ Jimin the love of his life!
“Lead the way, Yoonie,” Jimin whispers, and Yoongi giggles again.

The moment they’re off the dance floor, Jimin’s aid steps towards them.

“Happy Birthday, Prince Yoongi,” the aid bows before turning towards Jimin. “I’m afraid I’ll have to talk to my lord in private for awhile.”
Jimin arched an eyebrow. “Is it important?”

“Extremely, my lord,” the aid sounded apologetic.

Jimin sighs, running his fingers through his hair. Yoongi gently tugs his hand. “Go, it’s okay—I’ll wait outside for you.”

“Oh Yoonie—“
“Just don’t keep me waiting for too long,” Yoongi shakes his head.

Jimin ruffles Yoongi’s blonde dark hair and leaves with a promise, following his aid.

Yoongi walks towards the gardens in a haze, barely acknowledging the birthday wishes from the royals he passed by on the way.
Except for the small glow coming from within the castle, Yoongi is shrouded in darkness and hints of moonlight. He looks up at the cloudy sky, trying to find a peak of the twinkling stars, but coming up empty handed.
Soon enough, he hears footsteps behind him and an arm winds around his waist.

/it’s happening./

Yoongi turns around, faintly noticing the blue-green mask in the dim light before winding his arm around Jimin’s neck and leaning in—only—Jimin is leaning towards him too.
Strong arms are firm around him, holding him into a muscled body and warm lips meet his in a sweet kiss—so soft, so gently, so utterly delicious. Yoongi gasps slightly when a warm tongue touches the corner his lips.

“Open up for me,” comes a beautiful whisper.
The kiss became deeper, soft meshing of lips turned harsher, puffs of hot air, arousal and warm tongues caressing one another.

Yoongi might have even moaned a little, standing on his tiptoes.

It was the best feeling ever.

Until...

Until...
Yoongi shouldn’t be on his tiptoes.

Jimin wasn’t taller than him.

And those weren’t plump lips he was kissing—they were thinner, much more sinful.

And the taste—

Like the wine he’d landed on when he had fallen—

“Jungkook!” Yoongi gasps, pulling back, as shockwaves shake him.
The arms around him kept him close as Yoongi’s heartbeats picked up.

With shaky fingers, Yoongi removed the blue-green mask—so alike Jimin’s.

Jungkook’s eyes were soft, his breathing heavy.
“You wanted to find the love of your life,” Jungkook replied quietly, a hand gliding up to gently curl into Yoongi’s hair. “It’s not him...it’s not anybody else...It’s me. Always me.”

But—

But—
Yoongi is flooded with memories of Jungkook always making fun of him, quipping incessantly in his ear...but ultimately...

...always by his side.

...always seen the worst of him.

...and still stuck by.

And Yoongi’s heart is beating so fast—like never before.
His lips are tingling from that wonderful kiss—almost aching for more.

It doesn’t make sense.

But it feels so right.

And when Yoongi looked into Jungkook’s eyes again—he finally saw the stars.
That’s a wrap! 🙈
