Man did what he thought was best for his 4 year old kid in exceptional circumstances during a period of time in which he was forced to make a number of difficult decisions on the hoof using his discretionary judgement. What a rotter. How terrible. Literally the worst person alive
Discovering today that there are a lot of non-parents on Twitter who cant quite grasp the very basic principle that you don't just leave your young kids with just anybody for a full two weeks. For most ppl its only very close family. His are in Durham. Case closed. Move on.
As for the idea that there exists some form of paid child-care where you can just dump your 4 year old kid for a full two weeks so they can be looked after day & night by a stranger? Well, its a fantasy, quite frankly. Does that exist where you live? It doesn't exist where I live
Furthermore, only a non-parent or, at least, a very different form of parent to myself or my wife would even consider such an idea as tenable. Leaving your 4 year old kid, the most precious thing in the whole world to you, with a complete stranger for 2 weeks? Nah.
This whole episode is symptomatic of the fact that the lockdown is starting to get to us all. The reaction to this story has been blown wildly disproportionate bc there is so little going on. Ppl are both bored and stressed & this story has been a channel for those frustrations.
He said he feared his wife was exhibiting symptoms & feared it was only matter of time before he did too. He then took actions he felt were in best interests of his kid to safeguard him. If you cant relate to that as a parent you’ve let partisanship overcome your basic humanity.
Sadly, many ppl, it appears, have done just that.
