a Black woman directed A DRY WHITE SEASON and it’s weird to see people act like she didn’t know what she was doing with her interpretation of the book, regarding the framing and performances.
I can’t think of any movie made in the 80s that hates white people more than this one lmao
also... apartheid was still going on when this movie was made. so it wasn’t just a look into the past from a knowing eye, it addresses white complacency that was going on during the time of its release.
and all of the legwork done in the film, in terms of research and interviews, is a collaborative effort between a lot of Black people and (1) white guy. he is a guest to everything and the film frames him like a dumbass guest.
the only white person in A DRY WHITE SEASON who knows what she's talking about is Susan Sarandon. if the movie was about her, THAT would be a white savior movie.
