honestly, a lot of webtoons have really shit protagonists and the only reason people look away from their flaws and praise them is because most readers see themselves as the mc and end up being harsher towards the other characters that hurt them
for example: my darling signed in. (p.s i’m still in ch.60 as of now) the story itself is fun (although, it has a lot of ????? moments and shit that doesn’t serve a purpose to the plot), but the mc is honestly badly-written. they don’t have a flaw to be held accountable for and
the catfish thing didn’t matter bc it didn’t have big consequences nor was it relevant to the plot (unlike how it was presented) everything was handed to them and they were pursued so it made the whole ‘let’s break up’ scene lame bc there wasn’t really a reason to feel for him
imo: it’s prevalent with bl readers, who tends to be female, to root for the mc, who tends to be the “bottom”. it doesn’t matter whether or not the mc deserves the praise. there’s probably a deeper issue to that involving feminization but that’s not what this thread is about lol
i feel like ppl tend to immerse themselves TOO much in the story that they can’t look at it objectively— which is fine ! stories are there to entertain us so consume them as you will. it is only wrong when you claim biased thinking as objective idk just a neat little observation
