The 2018/19 season was by far the best campaign in recent memory for Milanisti, however I dislike the "we were so unlucky" routine.

In all honesty we were lucky to even be that close to CL the way we were playing in the final stage of that season.
If we had qualified for the Champions league it would have said more about Inter than us, after all they'd deservedly done the double over us.
You can say that a "few dropped points to provincal sides cost us our spot" but in actuality we lost both derbies that year. Even champions drop a silly point or two - but turning up for the big games is really what make the difference, and we never did.
Of course, there is a valid argument to say we bottled it as well, as we actually were in the top 4 and lost a crucial game to Torino, slipping down to 5th.

That was a classic case of the pressure being on, and failing to rise to the occaision. But overall,
Inter (and Atalanta) were undoubtely a better side than us, and the fact that it came so close was testament to how inconsistent Inter were in that campaign, with such a talented squad - and also to Gattuso's hard work. But at the end of the day we never had enough for CL.
