Stop blaming Calvinism for horrible hot takes on Covid-19. John Calvin pastored during several different plague outbreaks and many men under him died while caring for those infected. His theology doesn’t match many of these so-called reformed hot takes you are reading!

The vast majority of people who call themselves Calvinists have never read The Institutes or a John Calvin commentary. Furthermore, they have not read the reformers who studied under him. The problem isn’t Reformation Theology, the problem is American Evangelical Theology.

The reformers did not believe plague was result of God’s judgement, it was fruit of “The Fall”. When many left, reformers stayed & cared for those infected. Calvin himself was a chronically sick man. Sickness to Calvin & reformers was a product of Fall not personal judgement.

The vast majority of hot takes I hear regarding reformation theology, specifically regarding divine sovereignty, are based off of caricatures and not actually on the beliefs of the reformers. Not saying they aren’t without their problems, but they are rarely ever done justice.
