I'm talking with the brilliant @CandigirlATL68 right now and I was reminded of something really painful but hopeful. When I was volunteering for the Warren campaign, they gave us the autonomy to do outreach how we saw fit in our communities. I chose to focus on working class
predominantly Black areas. This is our natural base, these folks would do right by the party if we could get them to the polls. So many were canvassed for the first time and were convinced that nothing would change for them no matter who was in office. I can't really blame them.
Instead of doing deep outreach, I'm not even sure who should spearhead this, we as a party tend to focus on "swing voters" or convincing folks who have vowed to vote 3rd party back into the fold. There are a TON of our natural base that would do the right thing at the polls. . .
but once again they seem forgotten and neglected. We can't just show up to ask for votes. But this is the only time they see us. . .and most of the people I "touched" have never even seen that. It's painful, sure. But there's such a huge opportunity there. . .
