1/ Many keep asking/talking about containment. The truth is #COVID19 may never be “contained” everywhere, and to everyone’s satisfaction- even with a vaccine (especially since less than half of adults get the flu vaccine). The key will be a data and resource driven “new normal.” https://twitter.com/facethenation/status/1264571188589854720
2/ The virus will be “contained” in some places, and there will be clusters/ outbreaks in other places. This will occur for the foreseeable future. Opening- and staying open- will depend largely on surveillance, contact tracing, prevention measures, and protecting the vulnerable.
3/ We must develop therapeutics to help infected, and vaccines to prevent infections, but must also understand containment happens locally, and there WILL be outbreaks. It simply doesn’t work to say #COVID19 is or isn’t (or will or won’t be) “contained” nationwide at this point.
4/4 In the meantime, if you do go out as individuals or reopen as communities, be aware of your local #COVID19 data & burden, protect the vulnerable (or be extra cautious if vulnerable yourself), and help slow the spread w/ hand hygiene, physical distancing, & face coverings.
