Today is to remember people who made the ultimate sacrifice in uniform, and we will remember them.

But, there is another kind of sacrifice as well, many people who return from combat end up in prisons and jails from "invisible wounds"

I remember hearing the story of a veteran who came back traumatized so badly that they committed a terrible crime, that service member's family testified sharing his letters from solitary confinement during the Jails Task Force in Michigan

Very often, these crimes occur because of trauma experienced in combat theaters

As we push for #CleanSlate legislation in #Michigan and across the country, let's remember that these policies can make a critical difference for our justice-involved veterans too

We need to remember our combat Veterans as more than people wearing uniforms, we need to remember them as people DEEPLY impacted by their experiences in combat
