Here are some truths exposed by COVID. Some with deadly consequences.

1. There is a difference between real leaders versus people with leadership titles. Leaders who got there due to vision, expertise, & integrity versus anointed leaders.
@ASlavitt @MelissaJPeltier @choo_ek
2. Many rules and regulations we were always told to follow are shams.

3. All the wealth in the world doesn’t help if we lack basic manufacturing capacity for essentials.
4. Prevention is way better than cure. Tens of thousands of lives have been lost due to lack of planning and preparedness. The difference between countries with a plan and without is staggering.
5. Some parts of healthcare are driven by money, & for money. National investments in antivirals, antibiotics, vaccines, essential meds must be done without expectation of immediate reward. @choo_ek
6. The forgotten value of narrative, art, expertise, experience, common sense, and logic in medicine. Evidence based medicine complements these traits. It’s not a substitute.
@Rfonsi1 @chadinabhan @jeremyphoward @zeynep
7. Twitter is the most influential medical journal. Open access and preprints are here to stay. Medical journals must adapt or lose standing.

8. Business travel is overrated. Home sweet home. @PSampathkumarMD
9. Individuals can make a difference without being in power. Great examples in @ASlavitt @ScottGottliebMD @EricTopol @DrSidMukherjee
10. We are only as strong as the weakest link. Lack of universal healthcare makes you less safe. Ignoring people in prisons, meat packing plants, homeless shelters, and nursing homes means you yourself are less safe. @awgaffney
