It’s worth noting President Donald Trump is not a party in the #RNC2020 contract. It’s an agreement between the city of Charlotte and RNC Host Committee.

Last month, Charlotte City Council voted to accept $50 million from the DOJ to cover security costs. The city has already spent millions to prepare for the RNC #CLTCC

Last July, some Charlotte City Councilmembers inquired about canceling #RNC2020 after a “send her back” chant broke out during one of the president’s rallies in Greenville. Council was told the only way RNC doesn’t happen in CLT is if either party breaches the contract.

RNC came down to Charlotte and Vegas. Charlotte’s bid was incredibly stronger. Like Alabama vs Myers Park FB stronger. The LV bid was submitted by Nevada GOP not the city or LVCVA. City backed CLT’s bid. So did Gov Cooper who even wrote a letter saying hold your convention here

The city of Charlotte put a provision in their contract with the RNC saying if the $50 million from the DOJ doesn’t come through, the city can cancel hosting #RNC2020. If the city cancels in this circumstance, the host committee would have to cover costs up to that point

The GOP Convention CEO has been living in Charlotte. RNC leaders have an office in the NASCAR Tower. Millions have been spent. Walk thrus have happened, credentials have been applied for and I’m even told the president has signed off the stage setup for his acceptance speech.

So that leads us to today- the city is actively preparing to host #RNC2020. Phase 2 would permit it in a limited capacity. We could be in Phase 3 in June. It would likely be extremely challenging to find another location that can accommodate this event. It’s 90 days away
