K Twitter has saturated, and I mean it in a good way. Back in 2014-18, there'd be non stop debates surrounding the conflict of Kashmir - more than often we were telling stories to our own people than to the world.
And this was very good indeed. Newspapers were full of diverse political and social content (and very substantial too), and I remember people discussing happenings of the day in the evening on twitter.
There'd be serious disagreements over a lot of things. And contrary to the popular belief, the debates would take very aggresive turns sometimes, but at the end of the day, people would agree to disagree and move on without any serious grudges.
Many veterans you see around now were once gravely politically incorrect, but with time after frequent debates, they learnt and unlearnt a lot of things. Now, they are one of the most wonderful people out here.
It can be safely said that a generation of social media kids were brought up on social media itself and that's shaped their opinions about various issues surrounding them.
But, with time, after FoE was deeply disturbed, social media wasn't really a platform of discussion again. Hate and toxicity took over. And I'm not talking in context of Kashmir, but overall world.
Meanwhile in Kashmir, newer generation kids had seen everything. They were educated and knew very well what they were surrounded by. When they joined twitter, they were already aware of ground realities. They knew how to tell their stories.
The veterans knew who to talk to, and who to not talk to. They'd understood to differentiate between a wall and a curtain. Between a liberal and an extremist. They knew feminism was a boon, and not a curse.
And new generation kids on twitter knew it too (without social media ofcourse). So, when you see today twitter being full of memes and people often complain about twitter not being used enough should know that twitter has saturated. There's nothing to teach, we know the reality.
But, twitter should now be a platform to learn and ask questions (ofcourse, I'm not telling people not to share memes and enjoy like they are already, I'm addressing a niche audience).
Learn. Read. Share knowledge. Question the conformities. Be aware. Learn to tell stories. Learn to take criticism. Be brave enough to unlearn. Be cool enough to share. Baki wasalam.
