One of the downsides of online courses is that students never feel like they have a day off.

If students don’t log on frequently, there’s an overwhelming pile of discussion posts to wade through the next time they log on.

Greyson’s spending today working on 2 of his 3 online classes because only one of his professors told students they could take Memorial Day off.

To incentivize the students I’m teaching to take time off today, I emailed them yesterday to let them know they could earn a point on their final grade if they DIDN’T post anything on Memorial Day.

Life is short. As professors, we need to give students in online courses permission to take a day off.

Consider posting an announcement in your online courses today giving students permission - and an incentive - to take today off.
