so i’ve had a night to think about this and i have a few thoughts. in a very short thread (i think?) 1/? https://twitter.com/tfnow/status/1264623752719011841
after giving this some thought. this is and isn’t about sex at all. really, it’s just a manipulative ploy to keep folks coming back for more...and more...and more...and more. it’s shares the same lineage as “wretch-that-i-am” theology/ideology. 2/?
a theology/ideology of insufficiency as coined by Rev. Alison Guise-Johnson. this theology/ideology keeps an imperfect/unwhole people chasing after an insatiable God. attempting to attain what they are told they can never attain Sunday after Sunday. 3/?
3/? b/c if people are not whole then they keep coming back for more trying to find out how to be whole. and every time they come back they’re told another way that they aren’t whole. this time, it’s the sex that they’re having or had that makes them unwhole. 4/?
here’s the real rub though: Mike Todd isn’t describing here what happens when you have sex. instead, really he’s describing what happens when you attend his church and others like it. you come week after week and a piece of you is taken b/c...5/?
that’s the piece that makes you unwhole that week. and so you come back the next week trying to figure out how to make yourself whole, only for another piece of you to be taken. and eventually you’re stuck in a cycle . an abusive manipulative pastor/congregant relationship 6/?
so to recap: mike todd isn’t describing to you what happens when you have sex with multiple people. he’s describing to you when you attend his church, listen to his sermons, take his relationship advice. a piece of you is taken every time b/c you’re told it makes you unwhole. 7/8
and if you’re unwhole, you keep coming back for more. giving validity to him and his ministry that impedes upon the full liberation of God’s people. 8/8.
