If @UKRI_News want to implement a support system for PGRs that adheres to their own guidelines, they would ensure that all receive a 6-month minimum funding extension. [2/5]
93% of PGRs across all years report that their ability to work if negatively affected by the pandemic. 81% are facing stress. 76% have lost time, 60% face mental difficulties. 60% have difficulties conducting their research. 50% have financial concern. 50% lack resources. [3/5]
Currently, the vast majority of PGRs will receive no material support in relation to the pandemic and are scared for the future. Blanket funding would provide promised ‘peace of mind’, and lower the administrative burden on already stretched institutions. [4/5]
If you are a PGR, or supervise one, or indeed support anybody in academia financially, emotionally or academically - please sign our open letter calling on institutions to do the same.
