I think humanity has forgotten what it means to be alive because we’re constantly bombarded with the “ideal” image of what a good life is supposed to look like. that’s why every single person I know is some degree of depressed.
we don’t need as many choices in products as we have. we don’t need most of the things capitalism offers us. we’re consumers first and people somewhere low on whatever the list of priorities is.
and because we’re all miserable and we’re all comparing ourselves to others, we’re alienating and isolating ourselves from who we can be as a global community. we seek support and love in smaller communities and separate ourselves from people who don’t fit the criteria.
what if the things we’re chasing because we think they’ll make us happy are the source of our misery? what if the good life is simple and easy and everyone can have it? what is the good life? which movie or ad or tv show or influencer is telling the truth? or is life suffering?
I don’t know the answer. I just know that my happiest moments were spent singing and dancing without an audience and looking at the person I love while we’re driving down the streets of my favorite city. walking through nature, exploring places I’ve never been to.
and if that’s the good life, I can just have it right here, right now. so why do I still feel like I need to climb some artificial mountain somebody built who doesn’t care if the path to the top is made of hot lava or not? is the top even worth the journey?
