Some #SussexSquad members expressed interest in a virtual watch party for Jeffrey Epstein: Filthy Rich, the documentary being released this Wednesday. (You can click to watch the trailer: ) As promised I've done some research:
(1) Doing a watch party for something like this is a bit more complicated. There are less platforms that support Netflix watch parties, this is actually a 4 part series with four, 1 hour episodes of a much heavier topic, people bring their own trauma to the subject, etc.
(2) As such I've set things up a little bit differently this time. However, I'm open to changing things if people express strong preferences in another direction. (3) Because of the nature of the subject matter (and this series really is about the victims speaking for themselves)
I've scheduled it for next Sunday. That should allow everyone the opportunity to watch on their own, process, decide what they want to rewatch etc. (4) I do not think it is a good idea to watch this for the first time with everyone. These chats work best as a chance to see things
again, while discussing details and themes that arise. It is way too difficult to pay careful attention and keep up with the chat. (5) Most of the platforms to do watch parties for Netflix have limitations. Either everyone would have to sign up for an account, or we would have to
links for each episode, etc. The best option I found is http://kosmi.io . It basically allows me to share my screen and seems to work pretty well. Of course that means that we're at the mercy of my internet: but it tends to be pretty fast and reliable. (6) No one has to
sign up for an account: you can just use the link I will provide. However, I think if you want to change your screen name with this one you will have to sign up for an account. It's takes 20 seconds and just requires an email address and password. (7) If we have any mental health
professionals who will be joining the watch party please let me know. I think it would be helpful to have a couple people in the chat helping to contextualize things. (8) The watch party will run for four hours--feel free to come and go as you please. If there is an episode
or part you want to avoid please do not subject yourself to it. I think it is very important to have the voices of the victims amplified, but that should not be at the cost of your own mental health. I'm probably forgetting things which I'll add to this thread later.
