The #Cummings story seems to be focusing a lot on whether he broke the law. While I get that, and it's probably inevitable, this does strike me as a distraction of sorts, whether intentional or not.

Here's why I, and presumably many others, are so fu**ing angry

/1
When the lockdown started, we were told, repeatedly, constantly, and without question, to "Stay Home". The vast majority did, even if it was at great personal cost

#Cummings did not.

/2
We were told we should only leave the house for essential supplies, emergencies, or daily exercise ONCE a day. And we were told to stay local. Even driving to exercise at a park or something seemed to be pushing it

#Cummings drove 270 miles. That's not 'local'

/3
We were told, firmly and repeatedly, that children should be kept away from elderly grandparents, the most vulnerable group for #Covid19. And so they were.

#Cummings took his 4yo child WHO'D SPENT HOURS IN A CAR WITH A PARENT WHO HAD #Covid19 to his 70+ yo parents house

/4
We were told that, if we experience ANY symptoms of #Coronavirus, then we must self-isolate for 7 days, and our household should isolate for 14

#Cummings wife, or he himself (it keeps changing) came down with symptoms, and immediately embarked on a 270 mile road trip

/5
We were told that, no matter how tempting it may be, to avoid tourist destinations and attractions.

#Cummings seem to interpret this as 'Wander around a castle for bit, because why not?'

/6
We were told that, no matter how hard it is, we must keep away from our loved ones, to protect others and the NHS, because lives were at stake.

#Cummings blatantly disagreed.

/7
We're told that #Cummings needed to ensure his child was cared for. And we're meant to accept that the only option for this, for a powerful and wealthy government figure in a city of 8 million people, was a 270 mile drive with a sick wife to his elderly parents country home

/8
There's more, obviously. But the argument that #cummings didn't break the law doesn't mean he didn't break the rules, or the instructions, ones we were all compelled to follow at immense personal cost, that he himself apparently helped shape

/9
"He didn't break the law". Having to clarify there's no law against it means it's assumed that there is, or should be. Because it's WRONG

#Cummings has screwed over the UK population, at the worst possible time. And we aren't furious because he *might* have broken the law
