When we have seen the Police fixing Potholes, in the past, we have always wondered why BBMP couldn’t do it right themselves. It took this pandemic to see the stark differences between Govt Depts. Suddenly it was the police everywhere. 1/

@wfieldps
But not in the way we expect. Delivering food we would bring from our centers. It was also them taking on the entire task of helping transport lakhs to other states - running a railway reservation system manually along the way! All this while also maintaining law and order. 2/
One thinks why there isn’t more collaboration btwn govt depts? Why arent they working w/ the same zeal & responsibility as the Police? For ex, Rs 8000 crores sits with the Labor Dept, collected as Cess for the very purpose of taking care of the welfare of those coming into KA! 3/
In our exp, individuals we meet within each department seem excellent in their own right. But collectively, they are not working with the collaboration to see for an A+ performance these times necessitate. 4/
Maybe they just need to be on the ground more, see reality like the Police do daily. It is hard to imagine what it is really like on the ground when you operate from a tall cool imposing building with an even more grand room and desk for oneself. 5/
Many thanks & congratulations to the Police for a tremendous job above and beyond.👏🙏 6/n

*In the words of volunteer Shailaja*

Chitresh, unknown but one we would take many times these last 2 months of our voluntary work. My first interaction with this extremely hard working and sincere cop was during one of my staples distribution drives. 1/
I was informed that Chitresh will accompany. W/ multiple stops, it was going to be a long day.

Chitresh arrives with R at location 1, a small & quick work. Location 2 was big, w/ many asking for help. How to verify genuine asks? C takes off door to door, checks, done. 2/
Location 3: went w/ 27 bags to the construction site. But it turned out that there were many bachelors staying in each room at those half finished sites.

Chitresh ensured he went across all rooms and made sure none were left behind. 3/
Enroute to Location 4, C made it a point to stop at the various small clusters of the huts, incomplete work sites to take a note of the headcount. To distribute later. 4/
When one guy complained “no one is catering to Hindi guy, only local guys are being helped,” Chitresh immediately set him right.

“Don’t ever say such things to us. We are police. We don’t care whether you are Kannadiga, Hindi, or Bengali. It doesn’t matter to us.”

5/
By now it was way past lunch time. Exhausted, he requested if we could take a short break and offered all of us lunch at the police station. He made it a point to include the truck drivers as well who were helping us at every point. 6/
Chitresh has been a big help to us. Just a phone call away. Always on the lookout for people who need help either with food, travel or any other requirement during this crisis.

He is the Go To Person for many among us at the @wfieldps. 7/7
