It’s been a month since this tweet, and the science of #SARSCoV2 transmission from primary and secondary schools is still unclear... 1/ https://twitter.com/whitneyepi/status/1252571781413703682
One reason the science is still so fuzzy is that it’s hard to study. Bc children w #SARSCoV2 infection mostly asymptomstic, hard to tell school spread started an outbreak. You’d need frequent (daily?) tests in same schools & communities over time to see how infection spreads 2/
Another reason is that there hasn’t been govt urgency to figure this out... at least in US. These studies could be started. There are daycares at least that have remained open throughout. We’ve lost research opportunities 3/
There’s been a lack of long term strategic thinking in official fed response . It’s been clear for months that this outbreak would go on for 1-2 yrs in places (like US) who didn’t do early and aggressive contact tracing and isolation (or get lucky) 4/
Understanding what behaviors & settings most contribute to community spread (or not) is hard, labor-intensive work - but so key. #epitwitter & others have been doing their best to piece it together. But, with focused govt investment, we could know more by now. 5/
