/12 Recent times will push the patience of most fans. Some mornings I wake up and say to myself - I couldn’t give a sh*t what happens to @CAFCofficial - there are more important things in life right? Then I watch something like this and it reminds me how... https://twitter.com/cafcofficial/status/1264843650531422210">https://twitter.com/cafcoffic...
/12 intertwined the colours red & white are in my tapestry & how important the club has been in my life. Little things like the ritual visiting of my nan before every game & how she always said “We’re going to win today I can feel it” (& how I’d give anything to hear that again)
/12 Like the feeling I felt when my mum & dad brought me my first @CAFCofficial kit, when they didn’t have penny and how special I felt when I wore it for the first time (& how disappointed I felt when the material snagged 2 mins after wearing it - thanks @adidasfootball) https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="🤣" title="Rolling on the floor laughing" aria-label="Emoji: Rolling on the floor laughing">
/12 Importantly how football is the thing that brings me home to South London and how it brings me and my dad together in commonality. With my mum it’s our careers that met, but with dad it’s @CAFCofficial - it always has been since the beginning. Many miles have we travelled.
/12 I remember the time we went to @TranmereRovers, last away game of the season in Fancy Dress, dressed as Barry Scouse, with curly wig, Tash & shell suit as a young teen. Stopped the @CAFCofficial coach in the car park and the players all laughing...
/12 then walking into their home pub and everyone looking. Thanks to all @TranmereRovers fans in that pub for not killing me that day and for remaining ‘calm’ as I instructed! I’ve met so many special people on my journey through football. So many stitches in my tapestry.
/12 And now my family. The joy of watching their emotion & their frustration as young fans. The ups and downs. The tears, the tantrums, the screaming with joy, the hotdogs on Saturdays, the visit to my old nan’s grave on Shooters Hill, the collecting of my 76 year old dad..
/12 and then there was @SunderlandAFC at @wembleystadium twice. Once as an adolescent, crying for the first time with happiness, taunting the fans from the north east & last year crying again with happiness, but feeling their pain simultaneously. A strange feeling..
/12 and possibly the strangest feeling of all... loss. A bloke I never knew, but saw every week, who was a bit kooky in many ways, but who was clearly in love with our club. When @SebLewis81 died recently, I felt (& still feel) a tremendous loss and a little angry for him
/12 so back to the original @CAFCofficial post & perhaps the situation with our ownership, coronavirus and the @EFL - this isn’t about money or silverware. It’s about families, histories and emotion. Whether you’re the efl, esi, old/new owners - please do the right thing by us
/12 please remember that it’s not a business you’re dealing with. It’s people, honest, decent folk that love our club with a passion many would never understand.
/12 and as for @SunderlandAFC and their fans... you’ll have your day again. You’re a great club, with great fans. Thank you for the memories https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="❤️" title="Red heart" aria-label="Emoji: Red heart">
