Some facts about insects in our diet.

A thread. https://twitter.com/VeryrareNico/status/1264571626353541123
1.) You may not know it, but you eat an average of one to two pounds of flies, maggots, and other bugs each year. A lot of insect appendages (legs, wings, etc.) end up getting included in processed foods during food processing. https://blogs.scientificamerican.com/guest-blog/grubs-as-grub/
3.) The act of eating insects is called "entomophagy" and has quite a colorful story in human history. The bible even endorses it!

Leviticus 11:22: "Even these of them ye may eat; the locust after his kind, [...] and the grasshopper after his kind."
4.) The FAO states that "insects provide high-quality protein and nutrients comparable with meat and fish. Insects are particularly important as a food supplement for undernourished children because most insect species are high in fatty acids [like fish]."

5.) Insects are nutritious and are REALLY good sources of PROTEIN, and are also LOW ON CARBS.

E.g. 100g of red ant provide some 14g of protein (more than eggs), nearly 48g of Ca, and a nice hit of Fe, among other nutrients. All that in <100 cal. https://www.edibleinsects.com/insect-nutrition-information/
