Leo's been saying lots of really radical things lately. One of my favs was his response to Richard Boyd Barrett's question on increased supports to the arts. Leo said that the Arts are just like any other business and therefore have access to the €6.5 billion rescue package -
just like any other businss! I think this is fantastic, and its wonderful that Leo has ended the exceptionalism of the arts. Now, seeing as we're a business can we also have access to Enterprise Ireland, to tax incentives on investment, job supports and full wellfare entitlements
for everybody in the sector, and can we have the punitive VAT regime removed and lots of the red tape regulation that takes up so much time. Oh, and can we have real market supports - you know parity of importance in the curriculum, a regular slot on the news just after sport,
and an agreement around how much we charge politicians for taking promotional selfies with us. And finally, I assume that the government will be training its bureaucrats in the realities of the economics of culture
so we don't go looking for support from that €6.5billion fund only to be met with "so you want to make a few bob from your hobby" response. So lets all applaud this radical statement from Leo and lets see his timeline for these very simple reforms.
