you can’t shame people into learning their mother tongue bc many immigrant parents didn’t speak to their children in their mothertongue because they were misinformed about the effects it would have on their development in western education systems (cont.)

... always access to accurate learning materials for x language. twerk and twirl all you like but moretime not knowing your mothertongue isn’t a lack of pride or lack of meaningful connection to your culture.

on top of this, many immigrant parents had to learn english through their kids in order to get jobs to support their families. so where do they have the time to teach their children their mothertongue pls ??
