Almost my whole entire family live over 400 miles away in Sunderland which is just 14 miles from Durham. We ALWAYS visit them at Easter. We didn’t this year bc of the rules. My grandma has dementia & is deteriorating badly, we can’t see her & we don’t know when we’ll be able to💔
It’s terrifying to think that we probably won’t get to see my beautiful grandma before she totally forgets everything - before she won’t remember us at all. It breaks my Dad’s heart, he’d give anything to go & spend last precious moments with her. But we’ve stuck to the rules.
& this is nothing compared to what other people have gone through, but it’s personal to me & my family. We would LOVE to see our relatives up north, we haven’t seen them since last summer. We go to Sunderland twice a year but this year we don’t even know if we’ll get to up once.
We’ve followed the rules - “no non essential travel” - even though it’s a son’s “instinct” to be there for his mum when she needs it & be there for his sister too, who is having to cope with all of this on her own bc we live so far away. But we stayed home, we didn’t visit them.
We still can’t see them now, my grandma is getting worse & we’re worried, we’re hoping & hoping it won’t be “too late” before lockdown is properly lifted & we can go & see her - unselfishly & lawfully.
I don’t really know why I’ve made this thread but I guess my point is, there are SO many stories of so many people who’ve followed the rules at a sacrificial cost. & if WE can follow the rules even though it can break our hearts, even when it’s so hard.... shouldn’t everyone?
