It‘s honestly hard to witness people I consider/ed great advocates, activists, and allies to autistic people suddely proclaiming

„Autism is never an excuse!“
and
„Autistic people have to follow the same rules! No exceptions!“

Meeting autistic needs REQUIRES individualization.
Here I thought we were all working towards a truly inclusive society?

That we recognized that autism is indeed a valid reason for exceptions and accommodations?

That we all do hat we can so that those who can‘t do it can be supported and accommodated?

What is happening?!
I truly thought we had moved on from „If I can do it then so can everyone else!“ sentiments.

I honestly didn‘t expect a lot of the people now making such statements to hold these views.

Not sure how I feel about all of this yet, but there sure is a lot to unpack here.
Do you suddenly find such statements acceptable when they are made towards people who are in some way harmful?

Does the impact on the wider autistic community suddenly become a justifiable side effect because someone did a bad thing and THEY deserve bad things?

What‘s going on?
