First Minister @NicolaSturgeon: "When it was clear the public wouldn't accept it, I put the importance and integrity of the public health message first. To Catherine Calderwood's credit, so did she. I fear Boris Johnson is putting political interest ahead of the public interest."
NS: "I hope the Prime Minister will reflect further today and perhaps come to a different conclusion than the one he did yesterday."
NS: "Ultimately he has to come to a judgement, and he's the Prime Minister. I think he's come the the wrong judgement and the reason that matters is the consequences are so serious."
NS: "As we start to lift restrictions rely less on the letter of the law and more on guidance, and appeal to people's good judgement, then trust in the advice we're giving and the reason we're giving that advice is really important."
NS: "If people get any sense that there's one rule for them and one rule for people of authority, then that will become very difficult. The sacrifices people have made over these last few weeks are immense - from not seeing dying relatives to going to funerals...
NS: "..to having to make very difficult decisions about childcare and looking after children when you might fall ill. Everybody has had to make sacrifices of one form or other."
NS: "A really important part of continuing to persuade the public to do that is people feeling it applies regardless of position and who we are. That is a key principle of equity that is potentially being jeopardised here."
NS: "As of Thursday I hope to be saying to people they can take part in much more outdoor activity, meet up with another household other than their own as long as physical distancing is applied."
NS: "I want to see children back at school but it must be safe and we must do it in a way that persuades parents, young people themselves and teachers that it is safe. Building confidence, doing this very collaboratively is really important to get there."
NS: "Looking at this from the outside, there's lots of unanswered questions about what went on with Dominic Cummings and I think that's for the Prime Minister to satisfy himself around."
NS: "But the difference is neither I or Catherine Calderwood tried to retrofit the guidance to somehow make what she did acceptable. She accepted she'd made a mistake, and she paid a heavy price for that."
NS: "She recognised that what had to come first was the integrity of the public health message. With every day that passes that the PM and Dominic Cummings put his position ahead of public health, I think that reflects badly on them, I'm sorry to say."
