Let's talk about food for a moment. As a society we have become reliant on the supply chain form of food delivery. With this we are subject to disruptive actions whether man made or not. The covid 19 lie is a good example.

However lets not dwell on where we're at
but look how we can short circuit this system to our advantage. I'll focus on beef but it applies to most meat and non meat products. The meat we buy at the store has traveled and been handled by a long chain before it even gets to us. The rancher, the feed lot, the slaughter
house, the store, you. Pretty long chain. How many people touched your steak before you get it? How many links in the chain could be broken and keep you from feeding your family? What was the steer fed at the lot? Stress on the cattle during shipping. Etc.

What if we could
short circuit this chain? Wait. We can. Its not hard to do. I've done it. I'll show you how.

One steer can feed two families for a long time. What I did is I went in with a friend. We located a reputable rancher and made deal with him. He also provided the name
of a butcher he trusted with his own meat needs. We paid the rancher fair market price and he shipped the steer to the butcher, who prepped, cut, and wrapped our beef. We paid about 2/3 of what the equivalent amount would have cost from the store.
The rancher raised this steer with pride in his herd. He could tell us exactly what he fed it and gave us a great price which was fair market for him. All the additional cost to a pound of beef comes from all the others who fondled your meat ( pun intended) and shipped it
package it and sold it. This might not be for everyone but its something to ponder. Our ag industry takes great pride in what it does and the products it provides. By doing this you support local business and get a fresher cut of meat.
This can be done with poultry, dairy, eggs, veggies, etc. Knowing your producer is the equivalent of reading the label on canned goods. They know what went into it and will gladly tell you everything you want to know.

There is no shortage of food. Just of knowledge.
Btw. About reading the label. Did you know that people are more likely to read the labels on the foods they feed pets than they are on food they feed their families?

Think outside the box. Support your local farmers.

Thank you to all those who feed our families
