This picture has me thinking. I present to you: Benefits of Staying Home After Graduation, a Thread. (AKA Thank GOD for friends)
When I started college I was hell bent on leaving Peoria, eventually I decided I wanted to live in Minneapolis/St. Paul, Chicago, or maybe down in Texas in a larger city. After graduating I kind of hung around here and worked for a non-profit
For a year before getting sacked shortly after I had reconciled with my passion and love. After that I realized that my vocation was to that organization and I stayed here. I know that my indefinite future exists here. I haven’t made a ton of money,
Although I think that’s on the horizon, but I have re-discovered my zest for life. I love what I do even though I live paycheck to paycheck. The picture at the start of this thread is evidence of this. That picture is of my current air
Conditioning system. Here’s the catch, my apartment has central air. The management company is replacing my roof and the A/C and heating units which is great. Problem is, it’s been in the upper 80s here the past couple of days.
Today, my thermostat registered a high of 89 degrees so I called some friends of mine who lived in a house without central air. They now have central air but since this unit cost so much money I knew they would still have it. They were happy to lend it to me this week
Until my temperature control was restored. If I had moved to a larger area, I would have been there maybe 2 years by now. I may have made friends, however I can guarantee you that none of these people would have had this same unit, or even a window unit for me to borrow.
My second example is this whole shelter in place order. I would have gone crazy with depression by now if I were stuck in a small apartment in one of these cities with nothing to do. I’ve been blessed to be able to spend most of my days with my family at their home.
It has a yard, much more space, and most importantly, other people. If you happen to be “stuck” in your hometown, just make sure to count your blessings from time to time, especially now. Keep Calm and Carry On 😁
