Last week @japantimes published my article on how Japan's travel restrictions affect foreign residents of Japan. For those unsure if they could be banned from re-entering Japan, we've prepared a chart clarifying which countries are on the re-entry ban list. https://www.japantimes.co.jp/japan-entry-ban-list/
I also noticed that some people are confused about what the long-term resident visa means — it’s a status of residence (定住者 in Japanese), it doesn’t refer to a period of stay in Japan.
PM Abe has said Japan will maintain the current set of border control measures until the end of June, without elaborating.
I've seen comments from people wondering when these restrictions will be eased. The government hasn't specified any time frame but there are talks about easing restrictions in 3 stages: 1) for people traveling for business 2) international students 3) opening borders to tourists.
On the other hand, Japan has raised its travel advisory for 11 countries including India, Argentina and South Africa, to Level 3, urging against any travel to those countries. The government is expected to add these countries to the entry-ban list.
