- The sad fact of the matter is there is a section of society that believe Tories are fair game for the disgraceful scenes we have seen outside Cummings house and worse. These same people tend to be the ones who wanted to ignore a democratic referendum because it suited them.
- It’s very simple if Cummings can be proven to have broke the law/guidelines he should go. If not he should stay. This for some is clearly no longer the issue. If it was we wouldn’t see the media breaking those very same rules for the world to see.
- Much of liberal London likes to portray itself as the calm educated vanguard of society. In truth many have revealed themselves to be a spiteful undemocratic mob. This behaviour started after the referendum and has only got worse.
- This is not to say people don’t have a right to be angry if Cummings broke the rules. They do. However what we have seen over the last few days has crossed a line and much of the broadcast media has once again been complicit in it.
- Any claims to neutrality have been shattered. Gone. Finished. That illusion can now be thoroughly dismissed. What we are left with is a tangle of agendas and axes to grind. In all this the public have been served dreadfully.
- We have to do better as a society and up the level of debate and interaction. If we don’t we will see more and more scenes that resemble mob rule. This is what happens when the lines of communication collapse and those that should know better encourage it.
- This is also what happens when one section of society decides it can invalidate the votes of others. Such people have nowhere else to go. They have abused democracy so badly that they now feel they are justified in behaving in such a repulsive manner.
- Sadly I think we have much further to fall. I have very little love for any main political party. I do however belive in the value of debate, free speech, due process and logic. We have lost that focus and those driving that shift need to start thinking fast.
- Otherwise the free for all outside Cummings House is a snap shot of our future. No care, no logic, no adherence to rules, no due process....just a mob screaming. Everything a democracy should be seeking to avoid.
- Sadly the game being played here by many is very very obvious. Driven mad by a sense of defeat and grievance I do not expect such people to take a step back. They have made a deal with that particular devil and are locked into a downward trajectory.
- I just wish such focus and commitment could have been shown to things like the grooming gang scandal or Chinese authoritarianism. But that would be hard. That would take work. Thus it likely won’t happen. Just more endless game playing as history passes us by. END
