being a shareholder can give you a part of play in the company's decision, but these are still in control of the company owner/BOD too. it depends on how much share do you have on the company.
disclaimer: shareholding agreement might vary in every company so who exactly knows what a shareholder can or can't do in this case is the shareholder and the company themselves
other things aside, shareholding is definitely not a bad thing.. if anything it helps the company to grow because they supposedly will get a better financial support also usually performs better.
