Mine (Ocean View, SF) was zoned red. "No racial concentrations exist, nor is there any threat of such a condition in the future; however, many of the inhabitants are of foreign extraction and belong to the so-called lower levels of society." A mile away is Ingleside Terraces, colored blue. "No racial problems exist or are threatened", and there was residential-zoning and "deed restrictions" (presumably racially-restrictive covenants). [3/5]
Not to worry, historical lender / homebuyer: one mi farther is a green zone in Monterey Heights / Westwood Highlands. "The area is properly restricted by deed and zoning, and it is 90% owner-occupied, largely by professional people and business executives". [4/5]
Let& #39;s see how that gradient corresponds with today& #39;s zoning (h/t @deapthoughts). It is nearly all single family (excl. ADUs), but you can see that the minimum lot size is still larger in Ingleside Terrace north through St Francis Wood and east into Westwood Highlands. [5/5]
Why does our land use cover the baggage of century-old, explicitly racist practices? @sfplanning should develop comprehensive proposals for equitable land use in SF.
