let’s address some things, babes! (a thread)

“you’re racist for using the word genocide” “you’re also racist for not pronouncing names correctly the first time” “all your tweets are stolen”...... where does one even begin to UNPACK all of that

let’s get one thing out of the way: I haven’t watched a single Star Wars movie and don’t know who is reylo or what’s the deal with them. pls don’t drag me into discourse about that cape guy I don’t know him!!! so I would very much like to be excluded from that narrative thank u

that said, the "i will assume that u, stranger on the internet, must be 15 & white, & have no idea what genocide is" response under this thread is simply the funniest take i have ever seen i will not even try to unpack that i will simply.... [stares in indigenous North African]

I have since deleted my response to OP but i do stand by the fact that being inconsistent is very sexy of me

under that same thread, someone posted a contextless tweet about how i struggled to pronounce the names in MDZS the first time & conveniently cropped out the part abt how I was watching the show at the time to sound out the words out loud & learn how to say them

when i said the names registered as keysmashes in my head that wasnt a cruel jab at the names in MDZS. it just seemed like a good analogy for when my brain cant register certain pronunciations. that also goes for certain words in English that i never heard spoken out loud before

“Chinese names are not hard to pronounce ur just racist” is an actual thing someone said. that’s... not how language works. my amazighi last name has sounds that don’t even exist in most languages & non-amazighi/arabs understandably find it hard to pronounce

I live in France and i do get annoyed sometimes that most everyone can’t pronounce my name correctly here but it’s fun to see my friends determinedly try to pronounce the letters ح ع خ ض and fail miserably. I do appreciate the effort though

that said, i understand that someone who doesn’t have context & doesn’t know me might not realize that’s what i meant. i’d have been happy to clarify that "hey yeah sorry that didn’t really come out great, here’s what i actually meant!” but i was just called disgusting instead

also, i can actually pronounce every name in MDZS now! i watched the show and listened to the audio drama months ago and worked on my pronounciation bc i wanted to be able to say the names correctly when i gush about the story to everyone i know (which i do... annoyingly)

“all ur tweets are stolen” i genuinely want u to show me where. (that’s not sarcasm!) the only way I’d ever replicate another tweet is if my neurodivergent brain was convinced it was an original thought & not a false memory. a reply/DM is appreciated so i can promptly delete it!

also I literally just mind my business and tweet about fictional characters and common archetypes and overdone tropes in whatever book or fanfic im currently reading and that thousands of other people undoubtedly already talked about ITS REALLY NOT THAT DEEP

i’ve said this once but i’ll say it again: i’m not exempt from actually fucking up & if i do tweet something hurtful, i want ppl to confront me about it & welcome the opportunity to apologize and learn!

that said, i know better than to entertain armchair critics on twitter who like to perch on their moral high ground, sneering self-righteously at people they don’t know & reveling in their unchallenged superiority, even if the view turns out to be limited in its scope.
