How fast can the foundations crumble? How fast can what was once clear, obvious, even a given, now be forgotten, ignored, and in fact, become unspeakable? Let's consider Chicago's mayor Lori Lightfoot.
The actions Lightfoot has been taking against churches are unprecedented, especially given the city's failure to stem the flow of blood from gang violence that has claimed far more lives by murder than Covid-19 could ever manage within the city.
Lori Lightfoot is an open, avowed, lesbian in a same-sex "marriage." When I was in school, beginning ministry, that reality was not even imaginable (the "marriage" aspect), and her lesbianism would have been the first thing noted in regards to her stance re: the church.
The reason would be easily seen: lesbianism is specifically noted in Romans 1 and is plainly in opposition to God's law. It is rebellion. Hence, a person openly living in, and thereby advocating, rebellion against God's law will have an innate opposition to Christ's bride.
It has become accepted orthodoxy, *even in the minds of most self-avowed Christians,* that *that* behavior is "protected," and cannot be seen as part of an over-all rebellion against God's expressed will in Scripture. Hence, it cannot factor into an analysis of Lightfoot's...
The fact is, you could not possibly produce a biblically-based analysis of Lightfoot's standing as a politician, and her views, that would not have at its center her homosexuality and her profanation of marriage. If you pretend otherwise, don't call it "biblical."
The fear Christian leaders have of daring to point this out comes from two sources. One, raging fundies will throw out slurs and barbs for chuckles and amens, and who wants to be thought to be like *them*? But far more importantly are the deep inroads made into the church...
But do you notice the ONE thing that reporters cannot say, commentators cannot mention, that would have been front and center had the same situation arisen, say, in 1980, only 40 years ago? What has become the UNMENTIONABLE, even amongst Christians?
clearly antagonistic attitude toward the churches of Chicago. But...it is. It is central, definitional, and also...obvious. But...you dare not say a word about it. Well, I just did. So now will come the avalanche of faux-shock and religio-psychological babble. Start the clock.
Add in the "marriage" and the case would have been closed...in 1980. But ask yourself: how many of the articles you are seeing about Lightfoot's tyrannical attacks on churches in Chicago even MENTION her lesbianism? I have not seen any, personally. Have you?
...by fundamentally anti-Scriptural worldviews, perspectives derived far more from Western psychology and utilitarianism than from Scripture. Many leaders today are far more concerned about how they are "perceived" by the culture than how they are seen by God Himself.
