Lmao already showing how empty that declaration is https://twitter.com/rhiannok1/status/1264562552496766977
Here’s the tweet, if like me you’re blocked. Basically says that young folks live in small apts with Roommates, so the safest way for them to socialize is to go to a park. Ie a pseudo-harm-reduction take
There’s no analysis here from someone who’s self-appointed to talk about equity and resiliency about who else might live in multifamily housing without access to private outdoor space 🤔 there’s a class and racial analysis in that 😑
It also ignores many levels of selfishness. 1) selfishness of going to a busy park, even if consequences seem low for young, white ppl. We’ve seen Toronto police inequitably enforce physical distancing rules. But in *this* park, the mayor feels comfortable enough to go w/o mask🤔
2) the selfishness of being a vector. My dad, for example, hasn’t left his house in 2 months because he’s worried about other people getting him sick. Someone just messaged me their dad hasn’t gone to a park in 2 months because he’s working and is afraid of being a vector
3) the lack of vision and self-awareness. Maybe that declaration should say single family zoning should not exist. Maybe it should demand that each multifamily housing unit have its own private outdoor space. But nah.
It’s less controversial to say that young folks should go to parks, socialize, and become disease vectors than to demand dignified and adequate housing for everyone. That’s the lesson folks
