WORK. BUST YOUR ASS. I was an ASST GM of a college summer league 
team in HS. Interned for an MLB team. Got to UMD. Realized I loved 
. Had no experience in it. Cold emailed asst coaches & begged for a chance. Ended up going w the team that year to the tourney in Spokane. 2/x

How? I made myself invaluable. Some coaches cared abt recruiting more & put most efforts there. So I studied the play calls, tendencies, Synergy, Xs/Os incessantly. Learned all the film technology. Got to DO a bunch of the gameplans for a POWER NCAAM tm. As a freshman/soph.3/x

After soph year, I emailed (then asst GM) Tommy Sheppard. Honestly, just to pick his brain @ lunch. Happened to mention what I did at MD. At time Wiz had ONE GUY in video room working 100hr weeks. I ended up being able to be the only other Wiz video guy my last 2yrs of school.4/x
Social life? Lol. I thought I knew a lot from college . I didn’t know shit. Totally diff vernacular. So I studied my ass off again. Old scouting reports, playbooks, call sheets, clinic notes, whatever I could get my hands on. Spent my last 2yrs of college working 80hrs for 5/x

basically free late into the night coding games, identifying plays, going in for games, shadowing the Video Coordinator, etc.
Became the head video coordinator right out of school. Not sure anyone has done it that young. Wouldn’t trade the experience for the world. 6/x

WORK. Don’t expect fair pay. Don’t expect thanks. Do expect to get cussed out. Shut the f*ck up & listen. Be a sponge. Learn the game inside out. “The more you can do the more you can do.” If you really want it, you better be prepared to work past point of exhaustion. 7/x

(What am I doing? I don’t want to work in it anymore. I love the game but decided that the lifestyle wasn’t something I wanted forever. Coaches fired every couple yrs. Moving fam around the country nonstop. If you’re all in, be all in. If you don’t want that, totally get it.) 9/x
