Oda's portrayal of kamabakka & their residents is debatable at best, but i do think it says something that of all the types of charas out there, Ivankov is shown to be high up in the Revolutionary Army, and his kingdom plays a large part in it from what we can tell
now, why would someone who lives a lifestyle that's out of the norm join with a force that is directly opposed to the state of the world and literally working to revolutionize & change it? especially when said force is shown to be in the right while the Govt. is in the wrong?
i have no idea if that was Oda's intention, or if he was trying to say something or make a statement about LGBTQ+ politics, but i do think it's something to think about
of all characters to directly associate with Revolution, Oda specifically chose a group of people who explicitly live beyond gender, sexual, and binary norms, and even if their portrayal isn't the best at times, i think that's something worth thinking about
and to further emphasize this: we KNOW how creative Oda is, he's built the most complex and expansive world in the Shonen genre, and he could have chosen any group of people to do this with. But he chose people who are very obviously LGBTQ+
