I honestly hate the way that everyone’s solely blaming non-essential quarantine breaking on rural conservative America. Predominantly white able bodied ~liberals are breaking it too and using their mental health as an excuse and I’m sick of it. (1/8)
If you’re currently jumping through mental gymnastics about how “well I can break it just this once because-“ no you can’t. Oh your mental health is bad? It’s even worse for disabled people who are living our lives in fear now. (2/8)
The thing is - breaking social distancing doesn’t just come from a position of entitlement. It comes from a position of privilege. Yes anyone can die of COVID. But if you stay in primarily out of solidarity and not personal fear, you are privileged. (3/8)
I also want to mid-thread shoutout @sansjuniperos because at the very beginning of quarantine, they tweeted abt how this will never end because white ppl will always use mental health as an excuse and I think of that tweet so often (4/8)
Because it’s true. This is abt race too because as white people, we don’t have to worry as much about not receiving treatment. & that feeling is, I assume, even more prominent for white able bodied people who will be the first to receive ventilators (5/8)
Literal eugenics is happening. Doctors are choosing who is worthy of living and it is so incredibly fucked to be careless because you don’t have to worry about being at the bottom of the list. (6/8)
& this applies to small breaks of social distancing too. “I only saw one person” & “we didn’t hug each other though” & “it’s not like I’m going to a big crowd or anything.” I see you. Stop justifying it. Stop coddling yourself. (7/8)
If this thread makes you feel guilty, I do not care. I am tired of stroking the egos of able bodied people so you can justify why you may kill someone. Your fragility is not my problem. Your guilt is telling you you need to change. So change. (8/8)
