Time Stop

How does Lee Gon measure the duration of a time stop?

To manually count the number of seconds without a clock, some usually recite “one thousand one, one thousand two…” However, for big numbers, this could get too wordy (ex. saying 72,789 takes more than 1 second), thus, not too accurate in estimating time.

For Lee Gon, when time stops, he recites Euler’s number.

Euler’s number, e, is a constant used in areas such as finance. e is irrational; it goes on forever without repeating itself. https://www.math.utah.edu/~pa/math/e.html
So when time stops, he recites e, until the moment that time moves again.

In the example below, if for the duration of the time stop, he recites e up to the 29th digit 3, when time moves again, he can count the number of seconds in that previous time stop by reciting e again up to the 29th digit, this time with a clock.

Reciting Euler’s number to manually measure time is more accurate (compared to “one thousand one…”) especially for longer periods of time. e goes on forever without repeating itself. But you have to be a genius like Lee Gon to even memorize that string of digits.

With this method, he has measured the duration of the previous time stops.

The following are the time stops he counted:

Note that the square roots of these numbers are prime numbers.

Equivalently, the duration of a time stop in seconds is the square of a prime number.

Here is a list of the first 70 prime numbers (left to right, top to bottom), with the highlighted numbers corresponding to Lee Gon’s measured time stops. Also highlighted is the 62nd number (293), he mentioned about in episode 11.

So to get the duration of the 62nd time stop, 293 is squared, which results to 85,849 seconds. That’s equivalent to one day, as Lee Gon mentioned.

However, the sequence of prime numbers is increasing, thus, the duration of time stops could get longer than one day. If this crossing over the parallel worlds would go on, when it reaches the 251st time stop, imagine Lee Gon waiting for ONE MONTH for everything to move again!
And it doesn’t stop there; time stop could even get longer than a lifetime. Heck, the largest prime number discovered has millions of digits, thus, the worlds would practically stop forever, as Lee Gon realized.

And when time stops, Lee Gon would be the only one moving. What is the point of having Tae Eul beside him when she is frozen in time for all eternity. Hence, the tears of Lee Gon.

The solution to this problem is to close the door to the parallel worlds. But the question of whether the couple could be together to make the solution beautiful, remains to be seen.
