In my latest newsletter (called "Own your customer") I start talking about how tt is well known that Uber, Groupon, Slack or Square and many companies that are worth millions or billions today, were founded during the 2008 crisis.
There are thousands of people who are taking advantage of the free time they have during lockdown to launch their next business.
At http://lowcode.agency , we have calls almost every day with people who need help to launch their first app, website or digital business. The product part is just as important as the go-to-market strategy and customer acquisition part.
Most people are using the free tools out there to launch a business. For example, Facebook launched Shop this week, a free service for anyone who wants to sell products directly from Facebook and Instagram.
However, from my point of view, this will be more expensive in the long (or not so long?) run.

In the case of Facebook, the client's owner is not you, it's Facebook.
Today, we are seeing thousands of restaurants suffering the consequences of depending on UberEats, Rappi or DoorDash. In a low-profit business, apps charging 30% commission is killing restaurants left and right.
The game is so fixed, even this restaurant bought their own pizzas through an app to earn a few dollars. He sells them for $24, and the app sells them for $16. https://www.theverge.com/2020/5/18/21262316/doordash-pizza-profits-venture-capital-the-margins-ranjan-roy
An example of the cost of not having contact with your client and depending on anotherplatform.
We know that FB, for some years, has hidden your publications from the majority of the followers of your page. Do you have 10 thousand followers, but your publication is only seen by 500? FB wants for you to pay, in order to reach your target audience.
In @starter_story there are hundreds of stories of successful entrepreneurs developing businesses (almost all on/from the internet). And it is increasingly common to see that they prioritize their own communication channels with their clients -email and SMS-.
When starting/growing your business, focus on YOU owning the communication with your client , and do not use platforms that ultimately only lend you the communication channel, and then charge you.
It is not the same to have a list of 10,000 emails from your customers, to have 10,000 likes on Facebook.
