The most fascinating aspect of improvisational modular play, for me so far, is the challenge of how many moving parts can I keep in mind through the course of a piece.
This reflects my ongoing stubbornness of playing it all at once, rather than building up in layers like sane people do (either by multi-tracking or using a looper.)
A whole lot of settings are often effectively off limits. (They screw up the sound too much.). Some settings are intended to be played (aka "wiggled,") an intention that gels while refining the patch.
Potentially a *lot* of settings can go into this category of "attractive to adjust." If there are too many, though, one forgets some, or forgets their intended ranges or timings.
One need not care, of course, but it turns out that my background in compositionally structured musics makes me quite inclined to care.
