Followers keep asking me how I feel about Emergence being canceled. Have you ever lost a job? Have you ever lost the best job?
I shot this video during our last week of shooting. I had snuck away to the station set while the crew hustled to build a shot in the kitchen, just to sit for a second.
When I worked in theater I loved sitting in the empty house just before they opened. There’s something about an open space waiting to be filled that inspires reverence. Our stage felt like that. ⠀
One time Alexa asked me what my favorite part of shooting a tv show was. I thought hard. Then I said,
“my favorite part of shooting a show is the infinite space between when the camera op says ‘set’ and when the director says ‘action’.”
It’s only a few seconds. But the potential in those moments. The empty space waiting to be filled. The things that might unfold. No one knows. It could be a disaster. It could be magic.
It’s often magic.
I loved Jo, I loved our crew, I loved my cast mates, I loved New Jersey, I loved our fans. And it’s a really scary time to lose so many things you love all at once. I am bereft.
But I’m also hopeful. I’m thankful. I’m steady. I’m set.
