oikawa is going to come back ; a thread

let's start from the spring high preliminary arc. when aoba johsai loses against karasuno, oikawa says that it "makes it one win and one loss" to kageyama, which highly suggests that there will be a tie-breaker match in the future.

after that, he meets ushijima and says the famous line "you'd best never forget this worthless pride of mine". but he also states that his "volleyball career is far from over", that being proven when he reappears in brazil years later as a professional volleyball player.

also... i find this scene from the volume 17 bonus important. iwaizumi says that oikawa "will pursue volleyball for his lifetime" and that he "will move forward without hesitation", which is true. he also says that if they ever fight against each other, he will defeat oikawa. +

+ and this, honestly, sounds like a promise to me and makes me think that iwaizumi is going to come back too, and maybe even defeat oikawa. the bonus is called "the fight is not over". oikawa's fight and volleyball career are far from being over. and probably iwaizumi's too.

now skipping to the brazil arc, we see oikawa playing in an argentine team. he calls playing overseas "the ultimate challenge" and also adds that the stage he wants to stand on "hasn't changed". that stage is obviously a volleyball court but— in Japan? with and against who?

oikawa later states that he's going to beat /everyone/ and says it with such determination that it gives no room for doubt. he IS going to beat everyone (or at least ushijima and kageyama, in my opinion). +

+ he also says that he will see shouyou later, scene that reminds me of kagehina's. hinata and kageyama reunited during the msby vs black jackals match, they "saw each other later". so... hinata and oikawa WILL see each other.

the question is: when? i've thought about 2 possibilities. one, japan vs argentina in the olympics 2020. it seems that back in 2013 furudate said that maybe he would write haikyuu!! olympic edition seven years later (2020). the olympics have been postponed to 2021 but +

+ maybe it doesn't affect the story line. during the msby vs black jackals match, we find out that kageyama is going overseas the next year (2019). i've read that he still could play with the national team, so maybe we get kagehina playing against oikawa in the olympics.

and two, oikawa goes back to japan and joins a japanese team. in chapter 387, when kageyama's grandpa tells kags that "somebody even better will come and find you" oikawa appears in the background with hinata, bokuto, sakusa and atsumu, protagonists of the current match. +

+ let's not forget that when oikawa meets ushijima after losing against karasuno, he says that kageyama is nowhere near his level yet, but now things have changed. both have improved and probably are on the same level. or maybe not, we have to find out.

i'd also like to point out that oikawa's uniform in that chapter isn't the same as san juan's uniform. and, if i'm seeing well, he's wearing the number 12. hinata wears number 21, coincidence? maybe. or not.

so, with all of this being said, i think that oikawa is going to come back before haikyuu!! ends but this is only my opinion, so please don't take it too seriously! let's wait and see what furudate has prepared for us, but keep in mind that they never forget a promise <3
