I had to make a thread on Queens finest, the legend, LL Cool J (an appreciation thread):
Hereā€™s LL performing ā€œRock thĆ© Bellsā€ off his debut album, Radio (which dropped in 1985). This video is from the Def Jam Tour - 1987-1988 šŸ”„šŸ”„
Hereā€™s ā€œDear Yvetteā€ off of LLā€™s Radio album. One of my favorite joints from this album.
Hereā€™s LL Cool J with ā€œIā€™m Badā€ off his sophomore album, Bigger and Deffer. This was before my time, but Iā€™m from Jamaica, Queens too. And old heads loved this joint haha

Also, this is a very dope video (1987)
There was no way you were growing up from around my way and not having ā€œI Need Loveā€ as a throwback on rotation šŸ”„šŸ”„ (1987)

Everyone knows ā€œWhen I'm alone in my room / Sometimes I stare at the wall / And in the back of my mind / I hear my conscience call.ā€
In 1987, Kool Moe Dee took an issue with LL Cool J. He felt as though he didnā€™t respect those that came before him when LL referred to himself as ā€œraps new grandmaster.ā€ Moe Dee dropped a diss in 87, and LL came back in 89 with ā€œJack the Ripperā€
Hereā€™s ā€œGoing Back to Caliā€ off of LLā€™s 3rd album, Walking With a Panther.ā€ (1989)
Kool Moe Dee dropped a rebuttal to LLā€™s ā€œJack the Ripperā€ diss called ā€œLetā€™s Go.ā€ And, imo, LL finishes the beef and won with his response on ā€œTo Da Break of Dawn.ā€ (1990)

I think itā€™s important to highlight that Moe Dee basically pioneered the use of multiple syllable rhymes
ā€œAround the Way Girlā€ from Momma Said Knock You Out. This is easily my top 3 favorite LL Cool J songs (1990) šŸ”„šŸ”„šŸ”„
Hereā€™s LLā€™s album titled track, ā€œMomma Said Knock You Out.ā€ This was a classic moment (from what I hear lol).

I also think, from those who donā€™t know LLā€™s music catalog, that you guys can start to see the evolution in his approach to rap and his lyricism.
Hereā€™s ā€œStraight from Queensā€ from 14 Shots to the Doom. Listen man, LL continued to step up his lyricism and innovate. He coined the term ā€œG.O.A.T.ā€ And you can easily see why (1993)

He SPAZZED on this (beat was laced by Marly Marl)šŸ”„šŸ”„
Hereā€™s ā€œPink Cookies in a Plastic Bag Getting Crushed by Buildings.ā€ Haha I swear, for such a silly ass name, this song is straight flames.

Btw, the mystery of what the ā€œpink cookiesā€ were was answered on Drink Champs (with NORE) (1993 - 14 Shots to a Dome)
ā€œBack Seatā€ from 14 Shots to the Dome. This joint was also laced by Marly Marl (he deserves more shine nowadays) šŸ”„šŸ”„
ā€œI Shot Yaā€ off of LLā€™s Mr Smith album. The beat sounds familiar, right? It was originally intended for Biggie, but Chris Lighty heard and insisted on the Trackmasters giving it to LL Cool J. Dope song (1995)šŸ”„šŸ”„
Hereā€™s another occupancy of my top 3 favorite LL songs: ā€œHey Loverā€ feat. Boyz II Men (1995 - Mr. Smith)

Again, the evolution of LL was crazy šŸ”„
