Don’t initiate a physically violent encounter when one didn’t previously exist, and don’t encourage others to do so. This ridiculous online glorification of “punch a Nazi” or of “a patriot fighting for his rights” is gross and misguided.

I’ll venture most people replying to knockout videos with “that’s so satisfying” or “get ‘em, hero” have never been faced with their own physical vulnerability in the manner that they’re celebrating. Also, what’s satisfying, is it the act of punching or when the punch lands?
2/
These are distinct. Whether you glorify the completed act or the action itself, you’re encouraging someone else to act this way in the future. If someone tries to be this version of a “hero”, they will punch, be punched, or much more likely a combination thereof.
3/
A majority of the time, when someone starts a fight, both parties end up injured after punching wildly and rolling around, because this is what happens when people who can’t fight try to fight. Everyone loses even if injuries are minor, and it obviously can be much worse.

Moral high ground, whatever that is, won’t help someone perform better in a fight. Punching someone has consequences. Real people get real injuries, and not just the person you “want” to get injured.

It seems like physical interaction may be acceptable if you or someone nearby is in eminent danger, or if it’s in a consensual sportive context. Outside of this, it is unacceptable. Don’t participate in the glorification of it. If you do, you haven’t thought it through.

Sorry, just reflecting on a patient interaction from a while back. Moral high ground didn’t make the broken ribs, solid organ injuries, and intracranial bleeding go away, shockingly.
